Laments from Karelia, Ingria, Finland

This CD presents a collection of Baltic-Finnish laments, ritual poetry sung by women at important life events, such as weddings and funerals. One CD containing 15 audio tracks is accompanied by an illustrated booklet in Finnish and English, providing an introduction to laments as well as transcriptions and translations of the text of the laments. The historical recordings are from the collections of the Sound Archives of the Finnish Literature Society, the Archives of Audio Recordings of Spoken Finnish, and the Archives of Folklore and Comparative Religion of the University of Turku.
