About Us
Back Home Books is an online bookstore specializing in imported literature from Finland. This small, northern country with a challenging and unusual language is in the top three countries in the world for books published per capita and produces some wonderful books, most of which have not previously been available in North America. Back Home Books imports Finnish-language fiction and non-fiction for adults and children, as well as English-language books about Finland and materials for studying the Finnish language.
Back Home Books was founded in Buffalo, NY by the American mom of a half-Finnish toddler. For a bilingual family trying to maintain our language skills while living in the United States, the difficulty and expense of ordering books from Finnish bookstores was a big challenge. Back Home Books is a way to access Finnish books in the US or Canada for about the same price as in Finland, without the hassle! Our mission is to help ex-pat Finns and Finnish-Americans stay connected with Finnish culture and the Finnish language through great books at reasonable prices.
